During
the autumn 2012 semester till spring 2013, About
and around curating: The technology of the exhibition process / the realisation
of the project– “real world” curatorial course was organised by call and in
cooperation with Ass. Prof. Milorad Mladenović, academic painter and architect
(Faculty of Architecture), Doc. Radoš Antonijević, sculptor (Faculty of Fine
Arts, University of Arts in Belgrade) and the authors of the About and around curating project, Andrej
Bereta and Srđan Tunić, art historians and curators.
Students
of undergraduate studies of art history, architecture and fine arts (sculpture
department) had a unique opportunity to work together, in teams, proactively
gain knowledge and skills of both the process and the technology of art
exhibition, developing the concept and production of an artwork, curatorial
practices and realisation of artistic project. The importance of this project
is grounded on interfaculty cooperation, multidisciplinary education and
methodology with an aim to prepare students for real life situations after
graduation. Special attention was devoted to motivating students on their independent choice of topics and tasks
which were developed along with introducing them to contemporary artistic
practices.
The
artistic board of U10 gallery recognised the importance of this project and
invited us to be part of the exhibition programme. Artistic collective U10 is a
unique artistic space in Serbia and the region, based on courageous initiative
of joining young artists, led by artist and curator Nemanja Nikolić,
successfully promoting fresh production of most interesting generations of
artists. In line with the exhibition programme of U10, the students of the
course will have an opportunity to present their work in a representative
exhibition space in Belgrade.
As
the outcome of the course, through team working, students of three faculties of
University of Belgrade will have a chance to organise and realise responsively a
professional group exhibition “7x3” in artistic space U10 in Belgrade, from 21st
March till 9th April 2013. This exhibition presents an opportunity
for the art and general public to gain insight into the results of the course,
as well as established methods of art education.
The exhibition setting will consist of seven artworks,
made by seven teams including (at least) one student of art history,
architecture and fine arts. Each artwork presents a unique idea, developed by
young creative professionals. Exhibition “7x3” stands for alternative approach
in exhibiting where the initial idea is cooperation with related art vocations.
